Publicist Max Clifford accepted more than £1 million from the News of the World in return for ending legal action over a phone-hacking scandal, a newspaper reported on Wednesday. The celebrity PR agent has agreed to drop his case against the tabloid for tapping into his voicemail messages, the Guardian said. Public relations guru Max Clifford has described the phone-hacking scandal as a "cancer" within journalism. Speaking to the Leveson Inquiry into media standards, he said it involved a "tiny minority", and that some journalists had been forced to take part.
