The abomination at Arrowhead was all part of “the plan." So was the loss to the Bengals the week earlier. The Steelers have set out to lull the rest of the AFC playoff field into a false sense of security. Any time now, they will spring their trap. After all, no team can possibly give up four kickoff returns in five weeks, right? That must have been intentional. Maybe the special teams were just itching to set a record. Maybe they were feeling...

Pardon the lack of posting the last day - busy day for me. Back to it though as Sunday's intriguing matchup between the Vikings and Steelers approaches. Earlier in the week we look at a pair of interesting matchups in the trenches - Jared Allen vs. Max Starks and Kevin Williams vs. the interior offensive linemen of the Steelers. There are plenty of other interesting individual and unit matchups, but because it's late in the week, I thought I'd...

QB Coach Ken Anderson retiring; Tomlin still weighing other coaching changes In today's end of season presser, Tomlin announced that the only Steelers coaching change as of yet is the retirement of QB coach Ken Anderson. According to Tomlin, he and Anderson had discussed the former Bengals QB's possible retirement prior to the 2009 season. As for other much-discussed changes including whether the team will release Offensive Coordinator Bruce...

Just a few items from me real quick as I drive back from to Seattle to begin the new year in earnest. First off, too bad we don't have at least one Steelers playoff game to get excited about this year. I absolutely love the week leading up to the Wild Card round, and in those special years when the black and gold has a first round bye, the two weeks leading up to their playoff game. Even in those years when it doesn't look like the team has...

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Ken Anderson is retiring. Anderson initially contemplated retiring last summer, then told coach Mike Tomlin following the Steelers' season-ending 30-24 victory Sunday in Miami that he was leaving. Anderson was an NFL player or coach for 33 seasons and is one of 25 semifinalists this year for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In the end, the Pittsburgh Steelers came up empty. Not on the field -- they won their final three games to avoid a losing record, which seemed very possible after they inexplicably lost five in a row. Rather, they couldn't settle on an explanation for why a team that was so good for 1 1/2 seasons became so bad so quickly, a fatal flaw in a season filled with shortcomings.
