It’s the week before Thanksgiving, lets see if the Knoxville area real estate market has any real estate thanks to give. The Knox County Register of Deeds reports 117 closed transactions in the past week. That about 30 less than average. Two recent circumstances — one on the Republican side, one on the Democratic side — have crystallized skepticism concerning the value of straw votes, the kind usually taken at cattle-call receptions for candidates in this or that locality. The Tennessee Conservative Union held one in Knoxville earlier this month in which the four major Republican gubernatorial candidates were measured. Lt. November 18, 2009 – Mayor Haslam participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday to open the new Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center (KCBC) – one of the largest independent breast center facilities in the United States. The 39,054 square foot facility is one of the largest independent, freestanding breast cancer centers in the U.S. that is not affiliated with a hospital. November 19, 2009 – City of Knoxville offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 27th and 28th in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Waste Connections, the city’s household garbage collector, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. They will pick up Thursday’s garbage on Friday and Friday’s garbage on Saturday.
