An Ohio mayor is asking residents to grab a mower and help him cut the grass in city parks. Budget cuts mean Toledo has hired fewer seasonal workers to keep its parks tidy, so Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (FINK'-by-nur) was out with a mower doing the job Saturday at a park near his home. About 10 city administrative employees joined him, on their own time. Finkbeiner says he plans to spend the next several Saturdays on yard duty at the parks. Administrators say the city is making do with about half of the 80 employees hired last summer to mow parks and cemeteries. Read Full Story

The city of Toledo, Ohio is in a $11 million dollar budget crisis. As expected, cuts have been made. But those cuts do not include the the personal pet projects of Mayor Carty Finkbeiner. One of those projects was to beautify the city with the planting of flowers. In theory, it was a nice idea. Nobody dislikes flowers right? According to this Toledo Blade story , "Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner said the [LCIC] agency is mired in too much "political schmoozing" and should be more "professional in its design." How much is too much schmoozing? Who is the mayor to dictate how much schmoozing is allowed? What about all of the "political schmoozing" being conducted by the mayor himself?
