The San Francisco 49ers have unveiled design details on their proposed $937 million stadium south of San Francisco that would seat 68,500 and include solar panels and a green roof, as they move forward with plans to relocate to the South Bay city of Santa Clara. Team officials presented the details Tuesday to the Santa Clara City Council, saying it would allow more fans to get closer to the field by expanding seating in the lower bowl. Santa Clara city leaders will have some more things to think about as they consider a new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers. A draft environmental report says a proposed 68,500-seat stadium in Santa Clara for the 49ers would significantly increase traffic, noise and air pollution on game days and during other events. The report was posted to the Santa Clara city Web site Thursday. It recommends officials encourage fans and stadium workers to use public transportation. Four children and two adults were shot dead and a woman was clinging to life in a hospital, after what police said was an apparent murder-suicide at a home in an upscale Silicon Valley neighborhood, police said Monday. Police had not released names of the victims, or a motive, early Monday morning. They said the shooter, who used two guns, was a family member and was among those dead. Vandals severed eight fiber optic cables early Thursday in San Jose and another nearby town, leaving thousands of people without cell phone, Internet and landline service, officials said. San Jose police said there was evidence that someone removed a manhole cover and severed four fiber optic cables. The incident cut phone and Internet service for thousands in Santa Clara County, including Gilroy, Morgan Hill and San Martin, and parts of Santa Cruz County.
