A community portal about Mazda RX-7 with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: The Mazda RX-7 was a sports car that began production in 1978. The original RX-7 competed in the affordable sports car segment with the likes of the Nissan Fairlady Z. The styling was inspired by the Lotus Elan 2+2. It featured a unique twin-rotor Wankel rotary engine and a sporty front-midship, rear wheel drive layout, making it well balanced and appropriate for racing. The RX-7 was a direct replacement for the RX-3 and subsequently replaced all other Mazda rotary cars with the exception of the Cosmo.

RX-7: Mazda has a nice thing goin' with the rotary engine, why not expand to two lineups with them? Both the RX-7 and -8 would have similar, but distinctly different styling and could probably just be built off the same frame.
Stingray: I've heard rumor about what I'm hoping for, the '69 or '70. I'd probably try to gouge out my eyes every time I saw one of...
With 130 or so cars on the track, we can expect a busy day for the LeMons Supreme Court. Here's a gallery from yesterday's BS Inspection to tide you over until I can do updates. Anna, of Bikini Racer fame, poses here with the replacement for last season's Camaro: a really horrible first-gen Mazda RX-7. She can run 11s in a Toyota at the drag strip, so what's to stop her from owning a road course in a Mazda? Well, perhaps the squabbling boys on...

We've been hearing rumblings about a Mazda RX-7 revival for so long, we've almost gotten numb to the idea of a next-generation, rotary-powered coupe. But Mazda's new design chief, Ikua Maeda, has given us a desperately needed hope injection when he told Autocar that initial sketches have been completed and he's campaigning Mazda execs...

The Mazda RX-7 is a sports car that was produced in Japan beginning in 1978 and ending in 2002. The most unique feature of the car was its featuring of a rotary or Wankel engine. The RX-7 was a replacement for the RX-3 and eventually was the only rotary engine vehicle produced by Mazda other than the Cosmo. The rotary engine in the first of the RX-7s was only 1150 cc. The motor featured a twin rotor engine and the vehicle was rear wheel drive. Wankel invented his engine in Germany, but Mazda is one of the few car manufacturers to ever successfully use ...

The third-generation Mazda RX7 (FD3S) suffers from fuel starvation issues when driven aggressively, especially on vehicles with R-compound tires. This problem is caused by particularly wide and shallow fuel tank with an off-center pump location which is offset to the driver’s side. Under hard acceleration to the left, the fuel in the tank is forced away from the pump causing air to be introduced into the fuel lines. This can occur after less than ½ of the gas in the tank is consumed. With rotary engines fuel starvation can cause cut-outs or lean conditions that will rapidly lead to engine failure. (more…)

What is the SmartShift™? The SmartShift™ model SS-300 monitors the engine speed and tells you when you have exceeded a pre-programmed limit. A typical application would be for a up-shift indicator light or audible beeper, with the RPM threshold set to slightly less than engine redline. How does the SmartShift™ work? The SmartShift™ connects to the tachometer signal to determine the engine speed. When the engine speed exceeds the preset RPM threshold, it will activate the output. The output will typically be connected to a dash mounted indicator light or beeper. It is also possible to use an existing dash light such as the ...

2007 Mazda RX-8 Rotary revolutionary. By New Car Test Drive Overview For about five years in the middle of the 1970s, Mazda's rotary engine seemed poised to conquer the automotive world. Small, smooth and powerful, it promised a new generation of faster, cleaner and more efficient cars. Funny how things turned out: Today's cars are indeed faster, cleaner and more efficient than anyone then could even imagine. But they are all still motivated by the same reciprocating-piston principle that served the automotive pioneers of the 1880s. All but one, that is. The rotary engine did find its purpose, powering a delightful series of light, ...
