McCain is the oldest daughter of John and Cindy Hensley McCain.She has been a public figure for most of her life, appearing at the 1996 Republican National Convention.She was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and attended Xavier College Preparatory, an all-girl Catholic high school. She went on to Columbia University, where she majored in art history. McCain originally planned to become a music journalist, and interned at Newsweek magazine and Saturday Night Live. McCain later decided to pursue fashion design,and has said that she hopes to one day design a "a high-end couture line that goes up to plus sizes."
