I love Mel Brooks movies. For this, I only have my dearly departed father to blame. He got me into this particular brand of comedy, including the Airplane! movies and Leslie Nielsen 's Naked Gun movies and this probably helped contribute to my overall geekiness over the years. Mel Brooks humor is rather unique in its dry humor, generous use of puns and sight gags and other elements of "lower" humor. However he's known for doing this in a dynamic and witty way that requires the viewer to exercise quick thinking when watching his movies. You need to keep up with the sheer volume ... "The Onion" comes through with another funny article which begs the question, "Can this possibly bear any truth to it or is it just satire? My thoughts on it are that it could very well be a true" article but who knows for sure? As stands though, I am not sure if I'm all that convinced that it isn't really just a ploy by the ever hilarious Mel Brooks . On the other hand, it is just like him to create, produce, and/or promote a 'Shmuck' Foundation. He's such a funny man insomuch that the whole concept tickled my funny bone. I can easily ... I like a sophisticated comedy as much as the next guy, but sometimes a truly sophomoric film will catch me off guard, and I’ll find myself laughing rather hard. And after seeing far too many stupid, inane, offensive, or simply icky comedies of late, I’ve come to the not very profound (or original) conclusion that there is an art to a well made dumb comedy. It takes skill and talent to make a stupid joke work, odd as that may sound. The following clips are from Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein – one of my favorite comedies. The movie may be funnier if you have ... Read Full Story

Mel Brooks regularly gets letters from high school students. They're not asking questions about the 83-year-old directors classic comedy movies like "Blazing Saddles," "The Producers" and "Young Frankenstein." What's caught their attention is a comedy routine Brooks and Carl Reiner have performed for 50 years: "The 2000 Year Old Man." The young fans have found the original recordings and are laughing at the same material that made their...

One of our favorite comedy bits, and one that ironically rarely seems to age, is the Mel Brooks-Carl Reiner "2,000-year old man" shtick. Essentially, it's an interviewer talking to the oldest man alive played by Mel Brooks. He has opinions on everything in old Jewish man style. Take his stance on the Black Plague "Too many rats, not enough cats." In High School one of our favorite comedy albums was "The 2000 Year Old Man In The Year 2000...

Trying to ride the wave of the previous smash Broadway hit, The Producers, another Mel Brooks' classic movie has been turned into a live musical -- this time it's Young Frankenstein, which has landed in Chicago. Like The Producers, the stage version of Young Frankenstein follows the same plot line as the movie, but injects musical song and dance numbers throughout the production. So, did the theater producers strike gold for the second time...
