Meet the Designers at New York Fashion Week

By John Newlin on
Fashion designers get a pass when it comes to dressing. They can show up to a runway show in a sports bra and flip flops and it wouldn't make a difference in the world to anyone because, well, they designed the clothes on the runway. New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has just come to an exhausting close. Each day saw dozens of designers hustling around, dressing models in an effort to put their best, fashionable foot forward. The theme was Spring 2010, which, if you're not familiar with...Read Full Story

Zimbio at Fashion Week: Day 7 Recap

By Alicia Dennis on
Getty Images.Today is the last official day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and I'm probably not the only person who feels strangely relieved. I'm seeing far more women in flats at Bryant Park; those who tower in stilettos are probably carrying Tory Burch patent ballet slippers in their bags for the moment the cameras are put away. It's been a wonderfully overwhelming experience for a first-timer: I've met so many brilliant and talented people and seen so many beautiful things...but it has to...Read Full Story

Zimbio at Fashion Week: Day 6 Recap

Project Runway's Carol Hannah, Epperson, and Logan. By Zimbio. The unglamorous truth about New York fashion week: by the sixth day, you'll get tired of heels and makeup. You'll tire of waiting in lines, you'll tire of searching for clipboards, you'll tire of figuring out the most concise way to describe yourself and your work so the PR person you've wrangled doesn't blink and move on.But I'm actually just starting to get into the swing of it. It's the shoes, probably.Yesterday was a decidedly...Read Full Story

On Monday, singer Avril Lavigne and Style360 presented yet another collection of 80s-inspired clothing for junior's at the Metropolitan Pavillion. Avril was, of course, on-hand for the festivities in a black studded dress of her own creation. In keeping with the look she's maintained for about seven years now, she accompanied the dress with plenty of rock bangles and a whole mess of hair extensions.Avril knows her demographic: pre-adolescent girls joined seasoned models on the catwalk, some...Read Full Story

Zimbio at Fashion Week: Day 5 Recap

By Alicia Dennis on
How quickly time flies when you're fluttering from one show to the next, wondering how, exactly, you'll find the space and quiet to write about all the marvelous things you've seen. Fashion week is more than halfway over, now, and while the excitement that marked the first few days of the event hasn't exactly died down, there's a definite air of exhaustion among many of us who are trying to fit as much in as possible.Yesterday, I attended the Spring 2010 show for Loris Diran, a French-born...Read Full Story

Zimbio at MBFW: Day 4 Recap

By Alicia Dennis on
On Sunday, the skies finally lightened on New York City, with the fashion week crowd free once again to wear their minidresses and gladiator sandals with ease. The change in weather was much-needed; I was tired of wearing the only pair of shoes I had that could withstand the drudgery of a sludgy New York street. My first show was the Oral B Pulsonic Caravan showcase at the Metropolitan Pavillion. Caravan was once a mobile store that traveled around NYC selling clothing and accessories. It has...Read Full Story
