Will Vera Wang Be A No-Show At The 2009 Fashion Week?

Nothing excites a true fashionista as much as New York’s Fashion Week, but you fashion-addicted gals may be a bit disappointed to find that some of your favorite designers are NOT planning to showcase their collections at Bryant Park in 2009.

Designers Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo have already announced plans to pull out, and now another major designer, VERA WANG, has announced that she will not show her collection at the 2009 extravaganza either.  Vera released a statement regarding her decision, saying:

To do big shows, you really need shock and awe. You need big accessories, you need power and drama in staging and in the clothing. I want to see what I think feels politically correct and feels appropriate from a business point of view at this stage.”

The designer will definitely be missed at Bryant Park, but we have to give Vera kudos for her attempt to be socially responsible in the midst of the country’s financial crisis.  Instead of the runways of Bryant Park, Vera will reportedly show her collection in an intimate setting at her SoHo boutique before a small crowd of about 150 people, instead of the roughly 900 who would normally have the privilege of enjoying a sneak preview at Fashion Week.
