The Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park in southwest Colorado is the largest and most famous of the Ancestral Pueblo cliff dwellings preserved in the park. In winter, the tours stop for the season and the side road to the trail head is closed due to snow, but it is still possible to hike the three mile round trip to the overlook. The rock alcoves in the sandstone form due to the action of water and weather, and most of them are small. Only a few are large enough to accommodate structures as extensive as seen here. Cliff Palace has 217 rooms and ... Read Full Story

Kivas are circular structures found at just about all of the Ancestral Pueblo ruins sites in the Four Corners area. They are thought to be mostly for ceremonial and community social use. They have some features that seem more developed than the rectangular room blocks , including ventilation shafts and a design for allowing smoke from fire pits to escape. I’m so excited to be a part of Cosa Verde. Their whole mission is “connecting independent and emerging artists with environmentally-conscious consumers.” Love it!
