Miami Beer Guide

If you are reading this, you probably love beer.  And if you love beer and happen to be in Miami, than you have come to the right place.

Wondering where the great beer spots are in Miami?  Follow the WHAT MIAMI Miami Beer Guide to Miami brew spots by neighborhood.  While Miami might not have the beer culture of hoppy megaweights Boston or San Francisco, or the bar culture of New York or Philadelphia, nevertheless Miami does have a handful of great noteworthy spots in an otherwise liquor (and Corona/Budweiser) dominated city.  You won’t find any Heineken or Corona at most of these place, but you will find tantalizing brews to suit your taste buds.

So if you are thirsty for a refreshing ale or stout, avoid the commercial beers and check out the spots below.  Click on any of the establishments below for more information.

MIAMI BEACH

If you are staying or happen to be in South Beach for the day, then you are in luck because they Abbey Brewing Company is never too far away.  What many arguably  consider to be one of the best bars in Miami, the Abbey provides a small and intimate atmosphere in which to enjoy your ale.  The Abbey, now 15 years old, serves thirsty visitors from a selection of four in house beers brewed by local bremaster and owner Raymond Rigazio and eight rotating guest beers.  Be sure to check out the Quadruple Ale.  A true beer establishment, the Abbey serves no liquor, only BEER!  The Abbey also provides a comprehensive bottle selection including hard to find Trappist Ales, British Barley wines, and port wines.

On Lincoln Road, Zeke’s Roadhouse is another option to great beers in South Florida.  While Zeke’s does not offer any of it’s own beers, and lacks the intimate appeal of the Abbey, Zeke’s does offers a mega selection of bottled beers (400 or so) and at least a  dozen taps serving frothy goodness.  Sit right on world famous Lincoln Road, people watch, and enjoy great beer.

DOWNTOWN MIAMI / BRICKELL

In Downtown Miami / Brickell, Gordon Biersch Brewery provides a variety of in house brewed beers overlooking Brickell Avenue.  While Gordon Biersch is not an establishment unique to Miami, and lacks the intimate bar setting provided by Titanic Brewery or the Abbey, it does serve in house brewed beers not available anywhere in Miami and a large selection of food.  Be sure to try the Hefeweizen and the Marzen, or the seasonal beer.

For any of you on the north end of Downtown, or if you happen to be visiting the Adrienne Arsht Center for a show, make sure to come by the Democratic Republic of Beer.  True to it’s name, the DRB is an unbiased provider of beer. The DRB has hundreds of bottled beers at your disposal and one rotating tap, as well as a interesting selection of food.

CORAL GABLES

Let us not forget Coral Gables, for it has a couple noteworthy contenders as well.  One must drink beer spot is Titanic Brewery, located only steps away from the University of Miami Campus and the University Metrorail Station.  Titanic Brewery has been making award winning beers on site for over a decade now that include the delicious Captain Smith’s Rye and the White Star India Pale Ale.  Come have a great (and affordable) beer at this bar, enjoy a decent selection of food, and catch some live music on certain days.

If you are looking for something a little more fancy, the recently opened Yard House within the Village of Merrick Park has the largest selection of draught beer available anywhere in South Florida in a trendy atmosphere.  Sit around the massive bar and gaze in amazement as beer tenders sort through a maze of over one hundred taps.  Come here if you are a draught beer aficionado and drink beers from around the world until your heart is content.
