Rita and their kids are out of town attending a wedding invitation, this left Dexter staying alone for three days. We are introduced to Dexter's next victim, Zoey. Though she is a cop, but she killed her family and trying to escape herself by putting the blame to a drug dealer. There is something that Harry disclosed between Zoey and Dexter, in the way that he knew that he should be a successful murderer.

After so many incidents and having the experience together, Dexter is slowly having his feelings towards his family. Gathering of the evidence become so important for Dexter as he is trying to prove that Zoey is escaping from the murder. He discovers that she is very meticulous with her kills as well. When she facing up with Dexter, she is making her point clear that Dexter will not have the ability to catch her off guard.Dexter's solution to this is to trick her into trying to taking him out which leads her to his home.
When Dexter moved his first step and ready to make his kill, Zoey is trying to threaten him. He will eventually kill his family just like what Zoey did previously. The feeling of love on his family has suddenly risen from his heart but he still keep it in while he makes his kills.
