A Little Fainting Spell Can't Keep Michael Mukasey Down
(Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images North America) U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey is back on his feet following a nasty-looking collapse that's been all over YouTube since yesterday.
Fortunately, the 67-year-old did not suffer from a stroke, as some had first suspected. Which is good news, because now he can get on with telling everyone how the Bush administration is so awesome.
Just before his fainting spell Thursday, Mukasey was busy telling everyone how much safer they are because of the Patriot Act. CNN Reports:
During his speech, he praised the administration for "nothing less than a fundamental reorganization of our government" after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and blasted the "relentless critics of the very policies that have kept us safe."
Early in his speech, Mukasey noted Supreme Court justices were in attendance, and he praised John Roberts and Samuel Alito as "remarkably accomplished justices." Then about 30 minutes into his speech, Mukasey started muttering incoherently before going stiff and collapsing in the arms of the three men who had come to his assistance.
After a brief trip to the hospital, Mukasey was given a clean bill of health. No stroke. No heart troubles. And passing scores on the stress and treadmill tests.
So why did he faint? Fatigue? Low blood sugar? The hand of Karma punishing him for calling Alito a "remarkably accomplished justice?" I guess we'll never know.
