Michael Rasmussen crushed stage 8 and holds a good lead now in the Tour de France.  He's wearing the leaders yellow jersey. By the end of the climbing in Stage 8, only Antonio Colom and David Arroyo were still with Rasmussen.  But Rasmussen eventually dropped them (in a big way) at the base of  the last steep hill of the stage. Rasmussen created a margin of about four minutes for the remainder of the ride.  Iban Mayo has a strong individual performance to close that gap, and came in 2.47 back for 2nd. Michael Rasmussen is out.  Rabobank showed him the door this afternoon. Rasmussen has been under suspicion of doping all year because of 3 missed drug tests.  But now the Rabobank Team discovered that Rasmussen has being lieing about his whereabouts during those missed drug tests and during training sessions. Scandal has surrounded the Tour de France for several years now.  There were numerous allegations against Lance Armstrong, then Floyd Landis failed a drug test in the final days of last year's Tour de France. Mike Rasmussen took the overall lead after Stage 8.  Rasmussen is a climber - he excels in steeg hilly stages and races.  But Rasmussen isn't known for his time trial performances.  Most cycling enthusiasts are expecting Rasmussen to lose the major time trials in this year's Tour de France.
