Michael Steele
Who He Is: Currently the chairman of GOPAC, former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland

What He Represents: The moderate wing of the Republican party, such as it is. Sharply charming, he was the candidate most willing to publicly criticize President Bush during the debate, saying there has been a "failure to communicate on the war, Katrina, the bailout." He also was critical of the GOP's sometimes opportunistic use of black Republicans such as himself, saying that sometimes they are only put out on "display."

Sample Line from the Debate: “Republicans should have had more you-know-what to withstand the pressure [on the bailout.]"

GOP Chairman Michael Steele If Mo’Kelly’s lyin’…he’s flying. Check out the audio below. Now, there’s nothing wrong with critical analysis of the President’s policies and general ideology. But to publicly stoke the Chip Saltsman fires of racial/political discontent to appear more “down” with the Republican far-right is simply unacceptable. Mo’Kelly would never call Michael Steele a “sellout,” a “handkerchief head” or anything esle so patently derisive as other Black media outlets have done. Steele as the leader of the GOP should not be further demeaned and emasculated beyond what the party has already done to him. BUT… Mo’Kelly WILL say this… If the GOP ... Read Full Story
