Michael Vick was a quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons before being arrested for his involvement in an illegal dog fighting ring. The investigation lead to his suspension, investigation into the ring and eventually a 23 month prison stay. Vick's scheduled release form prison is in May 2009 and it's unsure if he will be able to regain his status as one of the NFL's top quarterbacks. He has also managed to accrue a great deal of debt. Happy tales for some former fighting dogs

From:  ap.org
Dozens of American pit bull terriers netted in the largest dogfighting raid in U.S. history are finding homes despite nay-sayers who predicted aggression or trauma would make them unsuitable as pets. More than 120 of the animals have been placed in foster homes or are headed there this week through the efforts of pit bull rescue groups throughout the U.S. An additional 117, like the scarred but smiling Tulip, await their turn. "They are not a vicious animal. They are the victims of abuse... Read Full Story

Appeals court agrees Vick can keep $16M in bonuses

From:  ap.org
A federal appeals court is backing the judge who ruled against the NFL and let quarterback Michael Vick keep more than $16 million in roster bonuses from the Atlanta Falcons. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday affirmed Judge David Doty's order saying Vick had already earned the bonuses before his dogfighting conviction, so the money wasn't subject to forfeiture. Vick served 18 months in prison and is now with the Philadelphia Eagles. Doty has long handled matters arising from... Read Full Story

L.A. County opens dogfighting tip line

From:  dogtime.com
I like to call this kind of story a silver lining in the Michael Vick dogfighting case: In Los Angeles County, the district attorney's office and the Humane Society of the United State are teaming up to start a 24-hour tip line for county residents to report cases of dogfighting. As an incentive, they're also offering a substantial reward for an arrest and conviction.  The program was announced today at a media conference at the office of Steve Cooley, the L.A. County district... Read Full Story

I Won’t Be a Wildcat Guy

On Sunday, November 8th, I read an article in The HUDDLE , a blog, which I receive daily in my inbox of my email. One of the articles was about a statement Tony Dungy made on Football Night in America about the possibility of the Buffalo Bills being a good place for Michael Vick next season. “I think a dark horse is Buffalo.” says Tony Dungy. He feels Buffalo could be a good spot for Michael Vick, because of the conversation between the Bills and the QB. Ummm, Terrell Owens’ contract with... Read Full Story

Fans have mixed emotions toward Vick

From:  ap.org
Charles Wright caught plenty of flak for wearing an old-school Michael Vick Falcons jersey. Wright didn't care. He's a longtime Vick fan and wanted to show his support for the quarterback's first road game with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Oakland since being reinstated to the NFL following an 18-month prison sentence for his involvement in a dogfighting ring. There were mixed feelings toward Vick outside the Coliseum, where a small group of protesters held signs made by In Defense... Read Full Story
