WASHINGTON — Scoreless through his first four games as a full-time pro, Mikael Backlund felt some weight.
“I didn’t feel any pressure until this year when I started struggling in the American League,” said Backlund, who was taken 24th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2007 draft. “I got off to a rough start and then I began to put pressure on myself. Calgary Flames center Mikael Backlund will miss up to six weeks of the season with a finger injury.
The Flames said the 22-year-old forward required surgery on his finger and will sit out the opening weeks of the season.
