Wide receiver Mike Furrey has been chosen by his Cleveland Browns teammates as the 2009 recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award. The Ed Block Courage Award is an annual recognition given to a member of each of the 32 NFL teams who exemplifies the qualities of Ed Block, the former Head Athletic Trainer of the Baltimore Colts. The qualities of courage, compassion, commitment and community serve as the criteria. All 32 winners will be honored at an event in Baltimore on March 7-10.

The Detroit Lions signed free agent receiver Bryant Johnson to a three-year contract on Monday, adding the former first-round draft pick to complement rising star Calvin Johnson. Per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer , the Browns have signed free agent wide receiver Mike Furrey . Terms were not disclosed.
Before playing wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, who released him this off-season, Furrey started 11 games at safety for the St. Louis Rams in 2005. In that season, he had 55 tackles and four interceptions.
In 2006 (his best as a receiver), Furrey led the NFL in receptions (98) and had 1,086 receiving yards. He scored six touchdowns as well.
