Does Clinton Have a Trick Up Her Sleeve or Has She Lost It?

By “it” I don’t mean the nomination - I’m referring to her mind. With Barack Obama clobbering her by 14% in North Carolina and nearly costing her Indiana, far exceeding all expectations, it’s inevitable that he’s going to be the Democratic nominee… unless Clinton has something incredible in store for the Democratic Party.

Right now, Clinton’s ONLY asset is her supporters, half of whom are telling pollsters that they’d sooner stay home or vote for McCain than support Barack Obama in the general election.

In a traditional election, the Democrats would be foolish to not nominate Hillary Clinton. She’s obviously the preferred candidate in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida - which are the power brokers in traditional elections. But Barack Obama isn’t the traditional candidate.

With his ability to register new voters, he has the potential to put numerous southern red-states with disenfranchised conservatives and large college and black populations in play for the first time in decades. North Carolina and Virginia will be in play under Barack Obama.

Senator Clinton is fighting on, but at this point, she’s in the same position as Governor Mike Huckabee after losing the Wisconsin Primary and looking at the daunting task of winning Texas and virtually every remaining state. The only advantage is that Clinton is an establishment candidate - Mike Huckabee was an outsider and despised by the Republican Establishment in Washington, DC.
