NORRIS Arts and Entertainment Editor BECKETT, Mass. -- Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival has abundant evidence of its stature in the dance world: It is a National Historic Landmark, last year it was National Medal of Arts honoree, and it is America’s longest-running international dance festival, founded in 1933 by modern dance pioneer Ted Shawn.  

A 58-year journey is coming to an end. From now through New Year’s Eve, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company will take its final bows — your last chance to see the modern-dance great’s works performed by his own dancers. Shortly before his death in 2009, the company decided to...  

DeKALB – Spring registration for the community dance school at Northern Illinois University has begun. Classes meet weekly from Jan. 16 through April 27. The program will end with a dance recital at 2 p.m. April 28 in Anderson Hall.  

BEREA — The Christmas County Dance School, a Berea tradition in its 74th year, started the day after Christmas with dancers and musicians from across the United States, Canada and six European countries.  

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Wendy Whelan, principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, has been named artistic advisor of the new Myers Dance Center at 153 Regent St.  

WITH ribbons tied and hair fastened, Weston’s own dance school will step into the spotlight in The Playhouse’s Christmas pantomime alongside a popular TV actor.  

BELLE HAVEN -- Eastern Shore's Own Arts Center School of Dance is resuming Ballet with Dana Floyd-Sutter on Jan. 3 and Tap classes with Lisa Brasch on Jan. 5.  

TYNESIDE'S Happy Feet Dance School has raised more than £2,000 for a cancer charity with a fundraising night at Pelaw Social Club in Gateshead.
