Mona Lisa, or La Gioconda, is a 16th-century oil painting on poplar wood by Leonardo da Vinci, and is arguably the most famous painting in the world. It’s the most scrutinized, studied and parodied iconic painting in the world. It’s under a specially tempered glass in the Musee du Louvre in Paris, France and is owned by the French Government. Many believe Mona Lisa is the female version of da Vinci himself. Others think she was just a pesant woman and still others just don’t care.
