She joins a growing list of designers who have opted not to go through with expensive runway shows this season, including Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Carmen Marc Valvo, Temperly London, and Naeem Khan. Lhuillier's spokesperson, Paul Wilmot, claimed the designer's plans for a smaller presentation had little to do with the current economic crisis, saying:
We just wanted to do something different, shake things up a little bit – it’ll sell the clothes differently. While parties invited to the exhibition will have far more intimate access to the designer's collection, it's highly likely that Lhuillier and her business planners hoped to save a chunk of change, as runway shows typically cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. The company is undoubtedly going to take a big hit by Saks Fifth Avenue's recent decision to close 16 of their 18 bridal salons.
