The old saying "If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any." can certainly apply to the Canadiens when it comes to injuries.  Just when it looks like a couple of players will be returning to the line up, another key player goes down.  Brian Gionta will be lost to the Habs indefinitely  due to a broken bone in his foot. It was reported that Gionta said he suffered the injury when he was struck by a shot in the Nov. 3 game against Atlanta. The veteran said he tried to play through the injury, and he skated in the next four games, ... Read Full Story

Brian Gionta took advantage of a timely carom 2:42 into overtime, when he tapped in an errant shot to secure the Montreal Canadiens' 2-1 win over the Sabres and spoil Buffalo's season opener on Saturday night. Travis Moen also scored for the Canadiens who have opened the season with consecutive overtime victories, following a 4-3 win at Toronto on Thursday. Carey Price stopped 34 shots in helping Montreal get off to a 2-0 start for only the second time in 10 years. Tim Connolly scored the lone goal for the Sabres, who failed to take advantage of a dominant offensive performance. Buffalo outshot Montreal ... Read Full Story
MONTREAL (Reuters) - The Montreal Canadiens acquired Scott Gomez, and his sizeable contract, from the New York Rangers in a seven-player trade on Tuesday. With the free-agent signing window opening on Wednesday, Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey got an early jump on the competition landing the play-making center he had been seeking. Gomez will earn $8 million next season. The Canadiens also received forward Tom Pyatt and defenseman Michael Busto from New York while sending forward Christopher Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh, Pavel Valentenko and Doug Janik to the Rangers. "We are extremely pleased to have acquired an impact centreman in Scott Gomez," Gainey ... Read Full Story

It was another Over Time game and another OT win for the Habs.  Okay, guys you can stop now.  You've made us believers.  We believe that you can win in OT.  Now how about winning a few games in regulation time. In truth it wasn't the most entertaining of the Habs recent games but they eked out a winner and two extremely valuable points.  Watching this game made me feel at times trapped literally and figuratively. This one was definitely  vintage "Martinesque."  As a fan there are two penalties that drive me insane - too many men on the ice and the delay of game (puck ... (Photo from Montreal Gazette) Welcome to the "Young and the Stupid" - the on going saga of a Belarusian hockey player  who sees himself as God's gift to the world of hockey and who has become a royal pain in the derriere to the Montreal Canadiens.   He has also become a high maintenance spoiled brat to put it bluntly who throws a tantrum and bolts every time things aren't to his liking.  Grow up kid, this is the real  hockey world and you not Evengi Malkin. Hell, he's really not in the Mikhail Grabovski class at present.  Yes he's got  talent and skill and could be an asset ... While nothing is official yet, both Scott Gomez and Travis Moen remain game time decisions for tonight's contest between the Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Red Wings at the Bell Centre. If either player turns out to be injured for a period of time, it would be yet another crippling blow to a Canadiens team that has dealt with more than its fair share of injuries throughout the first quarter of the season. And it started right off the bat...

Tomas Plekanec seemed to have hit rock bottom during the 2008-09 season, being his own biggest critic, he described his play as that of 'a little girl'. While that may have been slightly exaggerated on his part, the young centre had certainly stooped to the lowest point of his career. Often times, it seemed like he was never quite sure what he wanted to do with the puck, or that he simply didn't want it. He would either dump it as soon as he...
