Rossi Could Clinch His 6th World Championship This Weekend

Though he could easily button up the 2008 world title at Motegi on Sunday -- four races before the end of the season -- MotoGP legend Valentio Rossi is already looking toward 2009 where he will presumably defend his new title on a Bridgestone-shod Yamaha YZR-M1. Title or not this weekend, Rossi is scheduled to test on the Japanese circuit on Monday.

“We are busy with building the 2009 prototype that will be used during the winter test, starting from Valencia after the race. So it is a good opportunity for Valentino to give some comments and see whether the engineers are taking a good direction or not,” team manager Davide Brivio said.

Current world champion Casey Stoner is not giving up, though trailing by 82 points going into Sunday’s race. He’d be foolish to not try, too, after watching Nicky Hayden make an almost impossible (albeit is wildly lucky) comeback in 2006 to defeat Rossi in the final race of the season.

After Motegi, the series goes to Australia, then Malaysia, then finishes up in Valencia, Spain.
