Bloomberg is reporting that the Motorola Droid didn’t do too badly during its launching weekend. The “iPhone killer” with Android 2.0 OS and real GPS and turn-by-turn voice navigation may have sold as many as 100,000 units. That’s only a tenth of the iPhone sales two years ago when the first-gen Apple phone came out, but, hey, the economy is still bad and people are saving up for Christmas. Details regarding the Motorola Droid’s first weekend of sales have recently shown up on SlashGear, although they are far shy of Apple’s iPhone launches, they are still extremely positive. SlashGear’s article suggests that Motorola sold around 100,00 Droid handsets during the first weekend. Up until the last month or so Motorola have struggled to impact the market heavily, however the Droid may be the lift they need. A new ad for the just released Droid pits monochrome axle-greased toughness against colorful blinged out iPhone cases, insinuating that the carrier’s first Android phone isn’t “wussy” like that other smartphone .
