Rene Russo Joins Thor

From:  filmshaft.com
By Zeus’ beard, it seems Rene Russo – one of Hollywood’s leading ladies of the 1990s – has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s Thor . Even more interesting is her character name: Frigga. She will be playing Thor’s stepmother and wife to Odin (Anthony Hopkins). This particular Marvel venture begins shooting next month for a release in May 2011. Nobody ever expected Shakespeare-obsessed Branagh to be making a comic book adaptation. Is this part of the charm? His occasional forays into... Read Full Story

From:  uk.eonline.com
Francois Duhamel/ TWC If you were hoping the Screen Actors Guild Awards would be kinder to a certain top-reviewed film than the Globe Globes were, then your hopes were dashed. Fearless Forecast - 'Avatar' Not Breaking Any Records

It is highly unlikely that Avatar will do groundbreaking business this weekend. I'll put somewhere in the $80 million range out there here at the start and tell you why it may not make more. For starters, I'm unconvinced that it has incredibly wide appeal, especially at the beginning. I hear comparisons to Titanic , but that's not a well-informed argument. There's almost nothing these movies have in common, aside from the director and the running time. Titanic faced virtually no... Read Full Story

From:  eonline.com

Scene Description Spotlight -- The Dark Knight (2008)

Monday we looked at an excerpt from the Orci & Kurtzman screenplay for Star Trek, focusing on how the scene description reflected the fact that it is an action / sci-fi movie. How a little media exposure can increase your prospects in a big way EDITORS NOTE: Marsha Friedman, CEO of the National PR firm EMSI , author of the new book “Celebritize Yourself,” and a long-time Expert Access contributor, originally sent me this content in an email – because she knows I love comics and cartoons. Unbeknownst to her, after I read it, I decided her email, with a little Steveditorial Monomythologizing would make a great story. Not often you can mix Batman, aliens and... Read Full Story

Week in Review - Vampires, 'Avatar,' 'Hancock 2'

I was suprised when I looked back on this week that what dominated the news wasn't awards and critics lists - this is the time of year where you'd expect that to be the case - but rather casting stuff, which we get every week. But whn you hear that Malkovich might play the Spidey 4 villain and Josh Brolin might do a stint in Men in Black 3 , well, that's kind of big. Plus, we found out that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are making their Dark Shadows vampire movie next fall and that Brad Pitt... Read Full Story
