Scrumptious and Simple Honey Wheat Bread Recipe

From:  meckmom.com
Sorry, guys.  I know I promised this post yesterday but life got in the way.  For those of you anxiously waiting, here’s the recipe I mentioned in my last post . I tried out and adapted several different wheat bread recipes and finally settled on this one for three basic reasons.  1 - It’s made entirely from food storage ingredients (no refrigerated items needed).  2 - The finished product is good for sandwiches or toast.  3 - It freezes really well so I can make four loaves in one batch... How to Make Sourdough Bread, Part 2: The Dough

Welcome to the second part of my sourdough baking series. This is the part where you make and bake amazing, nibble-worthy loaves of bread. Yesterday, I made the sponge for my bread using my sourdough starter . I let it sit overnight, covered, to develop flavor. Today, I used that sponge to bake dense and chewy loaves of sourdough bread. The method couldn’t be simpler. Basically, I added a little salt and more flour the the sponge, then kneaded it into a stiff dough and formed it into... Read Full Story

Made in Finland

While rummaging through my kitchen cabinet the other day, I came across this beautiful slip decorated redware bowl. The bowl measures 8 inches across the top and is 2.25 inches tall. The foot measures 3 inches. Every time I come across the bowl in my cabinet I remember Gary's grandmother. My mother and I discovered this bowl in her apartment when we packed her possessions when she passed away at 98 quite a few years ago. When I turned the bowl over, I saw, Made in Finland , stamped into the... Read Full Story

Tonight, I’ll talk a little bit about sourdough starter and how to make a sponge. Tomorrow, Part 2 of this article will show you how to turn that sponge into bread. It all starts with the starter So, what gives sourdough bread its... Read Full Story

Kong (Gong) Bao Chicken

Kong (Gong) Bao Chicken is one of my favorite dishes. It combines spicy, sweet and sour taste. One important ingredient is raw peanut with its red skin. Peanut is fried and then mixed with other ingredients, which provides beautiful color and nutty aroma. Baked peanut or cashew is often chosen as substitute, however, neither of them can really give that fantastic result. My recipe: (1) Cut 1 lb chicken breast into 2-cm cubes, dice one green pepper, finely chop green onion and grab some dried... Read Full Story

Ron's Buttermilk Biscuits

You like buttermilk biscuits? I LOVE buttermilk biscuits. I have eaten them with breakfast, with dinner, for a snack, with butter, jelly, honey, sausage milk gravy, and even as the basis for shortcake. And I have made and eaten a ton of them over the years. Have you read recipes that warn you about not over-handling the dough or the biscuits will be tough? Well, actually, I believe that is true. And who want's a tough buttermilk biscuit? So, it's MY opinion that if you follow this recipe... Read Full Story

Sourdough Waffles

I heard your requests and here it is, my sourdough waffle recipe. The waffles it produces are tangy and sweet all at the same time. I use a sourdough that I originally purchased from King Arthur (it comes with instructions and recipes for beginners). You can make your own 'cheater version' with the recipe I'm providing but because it includes commercial yeast, it is not "true" sourdough. If you are at all interested in sourdough baking, I wholly recommend experimenting with it as it is... Read Full Story

Sourdough Starter - alternative to buying yeast

I've been making bread now for over a year without having to buy yeast. According to Milehimama , it costs about 9 cents for two loaves. I usually make three loaves a week so over a year that would cost about $7. In England, the same quantity of yeast would cost me 17p for two loaves which would work out at around £13. Instead of buying yeast, I use sourdough starter which makes use of naturally occurring yeasts. It is very simple to make: Place a cup each of wholemeal flour and water in a... Read Full Story

Stir-fried Tomato Slice Recipe

Stir Fried Tomato Slice Recipe Introduction: I have come to love tomatoes more and more ever since I attended the lecture that was made by a nutritionist at the fitness center. Tomato is a vegetable that we all know and like. It can be eaten raw or cooked. It can be cooked into soups and processed into paste. According to the nutritionist, tomato is a vegetable that benefits men the best. She warned the women in the audience who should observe their husband urinating. When they see... Read Full Story
