There is so much to think about when the holiday season is upon us. We think about the gifts that we wish to buy for others. There are cookies and other goodies to be made. We think about seeing family that we might not normally see throughout the year. We miss people from our past who are gone now, who helped to form some of our strongest and dearest holiday memories. These are just some of the many things that consume us at this time of year. One of the things that I think about at Christmastime is the holiday music that I hold ... Read Full Story

I recently finished an eye-opening book entitled, Strange Fruit: Billie Holiday, Cafe Society, And An Early Cry For Civil Right s by David Margolick. This book touched me in such a way that I knew I had to write something about it. I just wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to say, but something needed to be said. “Strange Fruit” is a haunting song that became closely linked with singer Billie Holiday specifically thanks to her inimitable interpretation of the Abel Meeropol-penned tune. I am currently reading a book by author Jimmy Guterman entitled, The Best Rock ‘N’ Roll Records Of All Time from 1992. A “little” outdated, but still I was interested in what one might consider the “greatest” rock records “of all time” (up to 1992, that is). He wrote the majority of his music-related books in ... Read Full Story

I thought it might be a good idea to create a new page here on my blog that would be a source of sites that have good to excellent forums for various bands or music genres. I am only just beginning to create a list as I only belong to a few myself. I am asking my readers, and all music fans out there to help me out if they would. What music-related forums do you go to where you can have great dialogue about the bands and music that you love? And I would prefer to keep off of the list those forums ... Read Full Story

On occasion, I will visit other music-related blogs to see what is on the minds of my fellow music lovers out there. One of my buddies, Britne, who runs a great concert-related music blog at www.cantstoprockin.com , was blogging about the possibility of a Led Zeppelin reunion in spite of the absence of their drummer, John Bonham, who died in 1980 at the age of 32, and the likelihood that lead singer, Robert Plant might not join the other originals on tour. That got me thinking about older bands and singers and how we have lost so many great ones to untimely deaths. When ... Read Full Story
