NASCAR's Biffle Bites Vick
Greg Biffle's name charity is the Greg Biffle Foundation for Animals that he runs with his fiance, Nicole Lunders.
FoxSports is reporting Biffle's comments on the Vick case.
Most of the focus of the story and the reaction is to a quote from Biffle in which he says, "I just wish they'd put him in jail and be done with it."
Biffle appearing to come out in favor of not bothering to mess with the hassle of a trial is a bit unfortunate. There is no full transcript of his statement so it is difficult to know if he had said something like "if he's guilty" or if he misspoke or that's what he really meant.
Maybe Nicole simply has him completely whipped so he wanted to make sure he didn't get in trouble at home.
Maybe Biffle thinks that having a breeder license and owning the property which has been turned into Daugschwitz Canine Concentration Camp means there is no doubt in his mind that Vick was involved.
Sadly, the focus on that quote misses the most important quote Biffle had (and the most important anyone has had in this case):
"...[T]ell the general public, just give them all the details of what they do with those dogs. How they steal people's dogs out of their front yards and use them for bait dogs and let other dogs kill them."
Finally, somebody said it.
People who fight dogs kidnap pets and have their trained, violent pit bulls mercilessly rip them to shreds.
Some of those pets belong to children. What kind of a sociopath does it take to have any part in stealing a child's pet and put it to such a horrific, fear filled death?
I know this goes on because it happened to a dog belonging to my next door neighbor's son. It was a dog my daughter loved (yeah Greg, I'm whipped too -- my wife won't let me get a dog -- so I'm stuck with cats).
If you are a parent, then you understand perfectly why I've been so hard core on dog fighting piece when all I normally ever blog about is the 43 pit bulls who fight it out in 3,500 pound race cars.
If you aren't a parent, maybe you had a pet as a kid. Remember how you felt about that pet. For most of us, "our" dog or cat was our friend. It was our best buddy.
Think about how you would feel if you knew that the way things ended for your buddy was in the hands of one of these cruel scumbags who think they get power from the violence and aggression of their dogs and get off on this blood sport.
By the way, don't think for a second that I'm equating dog fighting with the slaughter of 12 million in Nazi Concentration Camps. But I will say, the kind of people involved in dog fighting are the same kind of people who made the Holocaust possible.
It would have been nice if Biffle had been a tad more artful in his quote about Vick.
But I'm kind of proud it was a NASCAR driver who was the first sports figure to come out and point out the real evil of dog fighting.
