James and the Cavaliers welcome Shaquille O’Neal to their roster for the 2009-2010 NBA season. At this point of Shaq’s career, one can expect limited minutes from the big man during the regular season. Also one significant thing to consider about Shaq is his production historically has decreased significantly on the back end of back-to-back games. Remember too how Shaq has been verbal in the past about giving less than 100% during the regular season. King James and the Cavs have been a high octane team on both ends of the court and we will see how much pressure Shaq will have wanting to play at a pace less than 100% during the regular season. That conflicts with Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown’s coaching philosophy.

On the other hand, the key for the Celtics this season will be their health because they are an older team. Power forward Kevin Garnett missed the whole post season last year due to injury. Garnett underwent right knee surgery during the off-season. Boston head coach Doc Rivers told the media last week that KG has not gotten his full explosiveness back yet. However, the team acquired Rasheed Wallace from Detroit, which will help the team with scoring and rebounding. The Celtics frontcourt of Garnett, Wallace and Pierce may be the best of all of basketball when all healthy. Points will be hard to come by around the bucket against the Celtics as opposing teams had better box out those three or there will be easy put back baskets on the offensive end for Boston.
