Notre Dame beat Navy 43 straight times in a streak that began in 1963. Now the 19th-ranked Fighting Irish have lost to the Midshipmen twice in three seasons under Charlie Weis. Craig Schaefer sacked Jimmy Clausen in the end zone for a safety with 60 seconds left Saturday, and Navy held on for a 23-21 victory in South Bend, Ind. The last time an unranked Navy team beat a ranked Notre Dame team was 1936.

Yet the most football-crazed, rivalry-driven, animosity-defined conference in all of college athletics shares success with a conciliatory "S-E-C! S-E-C!"
