Nanodust phantom
When it comes to an armed combat, one of the top priorities for both sides is saving lives of their own soldiers. You can not win if there is no one to shoot at your enemy.
Here is an idea on how to dramatically increase the survivability of soldiers in the field using nanodust.
What are the properties that make nanodust composed from nanoparticles really stand out from the crowd of camouflage technologies?
- Light interaction with individual nanoparticles is completely different from the interaction with normal objects.
- The way that a bunch of nanoparticles transmits and reflects light totally depends on the distance between nanoparticles and what’s around them.
- Nanodust will stick to any surface and follow its curves closely.
The nanodust, covering a person from head to toe, in certain conditions could produce a copy of the enclosed object (a phantom). Imagine that this person was a soldier.

This phantom could appear at a certain distance from the actual person and would copy all its movements. A soldier looking out from the trench would appear to be standing on the ground in front of the trench at his full height. Such a lovely target would make enemy soldiers open fire and reveal the positions of their weapon emplacement to our soldier who, thanks to the phantom, is far enough to be safe.
It would also be interesting for one soldier to have several phantoms. This way the enemy will not only be mislead on the actual position, but also on the numbers of the soldiers in front of them.
