Ellicott District - Who gets to choose?

Time for a quick fact check on Chris Stevenson / Buffalo Challenger who is busy implying the process to replace vacated council seats is just a racist plot to disenfranchise black voters. The current process - committee members recommendations resume collection/public hearing Council vote came about in response to Mayor Brown's manipulation in the process in 2006 , when the Delaware district democratic committee members unanimously voted for Mike LoCurto as a replacement for Mark Cappola... William Greiner’s University Heights Legacy

William R. Greiner, president of the University at Buffalo for 13 years, died Saturday in the Cleveland Clinic . Not exactly a glowing recommendation for UB wetdream Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus is it? It comes as no surprise the University Heights residents, many of whom feel that Greiner and UB threw us under the fabled Bluebird bus years ago. From our vantage point, Greiner appeared to not even know there was a South Campus, much less a medical school there. Greiner’s University... Read Full Story

If UB held a beauty contest

The winner would be Mis Information. Mis Information’s latest contribution can be seen in the propaganda surrounding McCarley Gardens, a 15 acre neighborhood of townhouses, single family homes, a hospice and community center that UB wants to demolish to make way for a still unfunded medical campus. “UB is looking for land. We have to acquire land from somewhere,” said Marsha S. Henderson ( Buffalo News 12/4/09 ) Mis Information, Marsh Henderson ( $300,649 ) should try looking in her... Read Full Story

A Progressive Rewrite for Bob McCarthy

Buffalo News Bob McCarthy's choice of language is amusing and always makes me wonder what he would sound like if written from another point of view. For instance: South Council Member Mickey Kearns perplexed a host of political observers last summer when he launched what everyone recognized as a doomed challenge to incumbent Mayor Byron Brown. ( Buffalo News, 12/6/09 ) Would turn into: South Council Member Mickey Kearns energized a host of political observers last summer when he launched... Read Full Story

More NYS budget cuts

Every so often I ask people which other budgets should be cut, so that that theirs can remain untouched or contiunue to grow. Judging from the hate mail I get from UB and SUNY there is a severe disconnect between working at or attending a state school and understanding how many NYS tax dollars go to fund it. (Hint to students: Your tuition covers only about 30% of the operating budget cost. Then there's that $9.3 billion capital budget .) People, Inc is another group that is being cut so... Well, if you can call 2 years quick ...

UB's Office of Student Affairs moved quickly to suspend Tau Kappa Epsilon after an "initiation" party Friday morning on Merrimac Street ended with four arrests and two people hospitalized. "It was an isolated incident, and we're all real sorry about it," said Dane Counts, president of TKE's UB chapter. "We are cooperating with the school, our international fraternity and the Buffalo police." Police said they arrived at 82 Merrimac, a block west of Main Street and two blocks south of... Cutting the NYS Budget

Cutting the NYS budget, one bloated bureaucracy at a time. NYSUP (New York State University Police) have a great proposal that will cut bureaucracy, save money and provide better service. It makes so much sense, it probably doesn't have a chance of getting passed. NYSUP Consolidation : Under the current system each SUNY campus maintains its own University Police department. Over 60 managerial titles including Chief/Director, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, and Inspector, statewide overseeing... Read Full Story

Sam Hoyt delivers for the Heights

After Javon Jackson was gunned down last spring, passing the NYS Assembly and Senate Bills that would allow SUNY Campus Safety police to patrol off campus took on added urgency and importance. Unfortunately, the Bills died an untimely death with the Golisano/Pigeon orchestrated melt down of the NYS Sentate. Lentol , Schroeder , Colton , Hoyt , Kolb and Townsend are still working to get the Bill passed, A4940 . PURPOSE: To extend the jurisdiction, as it pertains to infractions and violations... Another Neighbor Robbed at Gunpoint

Our neighbor was robbed at gun point outside of the NFTA LaSalle Station, Wednesday evening, on his way home from work. NFTA and Brown administration both FAILed our neighbor on this one. Brown’s FAILure to staff E District with the resources they need to police this area properly. FAILure of the gun buyback program. Nothing like a gun in the face to get the point across that there are WAY too many guns on the streets of Buffalo, especially in the hands of idiot teen gang banger wannabes... Read Full Story
