Nevada Politics

The almost universally acknowledged master of Nevada politics, Harry Reid and his lieutenants anoint candidates, eliminate contested primaries and, ultimately, win elections. Few dare cross him.  

He coasted to reelection in 1992. However, he barely defeated 1st District Congressman John Ensign in 1998 in the midst of a statewide Republican sweep. In 2004, Reid won reelection with 61 percent of the vote, gaining the endorsement of several Republicans.  

Well, this is interesting. The Las Vegas Review-Journal (LVRJ) -- yes, the very newspaper that was the driving force behind giant copyright troll Righthaven, and whose then-publisher insisted that a single non-commercial infringement was the equivalent of stealing his car -- has published an anti-PIPA/SOPA OpEd piece, written by CEA boss Gary Shapiro. Apparently ignoring the widespread protests about both SOPA and PROTECT IP (PIPA) from the last few months (and the momentum growing against both bills), it was announced over the weekend that Harry Reid is seeking to override the hold on PIPA put forth by Senator Ron Wyden (along with Senators Jerry Moran, Maria Cantwell and Rand Paul) by seeking cloture.
