Sony Ericsson MH907 headset – powered by magical ear-sensing pixies

Last week, I ran a blog post about Sony Ericsson’s upcoming music technology, that they were saying would change the way you listen to music forever. They didn’t, though, specify exactly what that technology might actually be.

Well, no they have, and it’s fair to say that no-one predicted what it would be.

Y’see, what they’ve now come out with, according to the Sony Ericsson press release, is the world’s first motion-sensitive headset, that which also sense your ears. Basically, it’s the headset which lets you pause and play back your music without ever actually touching a button. That’s where the ear-sensing comes in. You start the music playing by simply putting the headphones in your ears. And to pause it, or to put the headset into ‘phone’ mode, when you get a call, you just yank one of the earbuds out.

Er, no, I haven’t worked out exactly how it tells whether it’s in your ear or not, either. Is it through temperature sensors? Humidity sensors? Earwax-smelling pixies (yes, even I went EWWWWWWWWW at that mental image… sorry)?

Who knows…

Anyway, I’ll not be able to test them out, unfortunately. You have to have a compatible phone, with that Sony Ericsson Fastport connector on it. Which automatically rules my X1 out, ‘cos it uses a 3.5mm jack plug for the headset. The MH907’s clearly meant more for phones like the Sony Ericsson W995, or the upcoming Sony Ericsson Aino.
