With recent talk that the Mets may not be spending on a top tier free agent, many Mets fans have begun speculating which second tier free agents or trade targets may be a fit. With this in mind, I have come up with a four-part off-season plan that would make fantasy baseball players, as well as Jerome-From-Manhattan-type WFAN callers proud. I don't know what Minaya's budget is going to be (and honestly, neither do you), but with contracts...

With the Winter Meetings already underway, Mets GM Omar Minaya (or according to some, Jeff Wilpon in disguise) is faced with the daunting task of building a World Series-contending team for 2010. Aside from the obvious needs of a left fielder and a top-of-the-rotation starting pitcher, Minaya has made it clear that the team will be looking to upgrade at second base. This past week, there have already been rumblings about a potential deal that...

When it comes two building a championship team for next season, the names Matt Holliday and Jason Bay usually spearhead the list as essential additions the club must make. However, the Mets will need more than just a single free agent slugger to be competitive in the National League East. The free agent market, as a whole, isn’t very deep this season, so Omar Minaya and the Mets will most likely look at acquiring new talent via trade to try to...

NEW YORK — Former New York Mets outfielder Lenny Dykstra's 1986 World Series ring is up for sale. Auctioneers say they plan to sell a trove of memorabilia the financially troubled All-Star left unclaimed at a Beverly Hills, Calif.-based pawnshop. The items include the Mets championship ring and a trophy Dykstra won in a series most remembered for an error by Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner, who let a ball roll through his...

Omar Minaya has made some good moves and some mistakes. Should Omar Minaya get the vote of confidence that the Wilpons gave him for 2009? Or should Omar Minaya be fired?Contributor: Lee Andrew HendersonPublished: Oct 28, 2009

Last night, the New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves. Even though they have the second-largest payroll in baseball (they'll shell out a total of $145 million in salaries this year) and some of the league's marquee talents (David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Johan Santana and Francisco Rodriguez, just to name a handful), they have [...]

According to a story on nypost.com , the Mets have released veteran relief pitcher Duaner Sanchez. Sanchez has never been same pitcher since that terrible cab accident in 2006 while in Miami. Many people feel Sanchez’ injury was the key ingredient to missing out on a World Series appearance. At the time of the injury, Sanchez was in the midst of his first really good major league season . Since then, Sanchez has undergone several shoulder procedures which has sapped his velocity and hurt his location. This spring was not good for Sanchez, who has allowed six walks and five hits in only five ... Read Full Story

Read the debate intro and Sport’s Geek’s argument that the Mets are not the most poorly run franchise in baseball. View This Poll trends Ahhh, those New York Mets. Have things really been the same in Queens since the 2006 NLCS? The Cardinals knocked off the Mets in Game seven that year. While it is true that the Mets got off to good starts in 2007 and 2008, the feel good thoughts were quickly vanquished by the epic collapses. Mets fans will never forget the unforgettable collapse of 2007 when they blew a seven game lead with seventeen to go. I will give them ... Read Full Story

CORONER'S REPORT RULES SELF -ASPHYXIATION CAUSED METS' DEATH All the paperwork is signed, sealed and delivered. The official poster boys of self strangulation , now officially known as the 2007 New York Mets, are DEAD. A team full of baseball players so accomplished and talented, that many sports prognosticators saw a 2007 World Series Championship flag being waved in their honor. The Mets "loaded up" for this season. They acquired every high priced mercenary they could get their checkbook on, in anticipation of this season being "The Year of the Met". The payroll for this team laden with overpriced, underachieving, overrated baseball players, began ... Read Full Story

...Great article from Marty Noble at Mets.com: A balance of emotions must be struck for a team to prosper. Joe Torre characterized it as "being intense without being tense" when he managed the Mets in the 1970s and into the 1980s and suggested veteran teams were more likely than young teams to achieve it. The mostly veteran Mets of 2007 attained that balance but were unable to maintain it, losing their intensity after seven weeks of dominating the division, as they had in 2006. The '08 edition is fully aware of that as it begins the season. What the Mets may have to fight ... Read Full Story

... This great profile and information comes from Adam Rubin at the Daily News: If Duaner Sanchez isn’t ready to break camp with the Mets, and it’s certainly possible, it would seem that the next reliever in line would be Rule 5 pick Steven Register from the Rockies. Basically, the Mets paid $50,000 to the Rockies to draft Register (pictured) during the winter meetings. He would become the organization’s property if he remains on the major-league roster the entire season. If he doesn’t stick, he’d be available to other teams to claim off waivers (the likelihood if he’s not kept), or otherwise be offered ... Read Full Story

...I finally got a chance to see Steven Register pitch today against Detroit. It was not a save situation per say, but it still was the 9th inning in a game where the lead changed 3 times. He wound up allowing 2 hits, but no runs and was never not in control. There is something about this guy that intrigues me. Maybe it's the fact that since he is a rule V guy, if he doesn't make the team we could lose him. With a glutton of right handed relief, including Heillman, Sanchez, Wise and Sosa there doesn't really seem to be room for ... Read Full Story
