NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Governor David Paterson on Tuesday submitted emergency legislation that would grant him the one-time authority to balance the state budget without approval from the legislature. Paterson, frustrated by a seven-week standoff with lawmakers on measures to close a $3.2 billion deficit, said he will make the cuts needed to balance the budget, preserve the state's credit rating and keep New York afloat. NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Governor David Paterson, facing a tough battle to keep his job, has fallen so low in public opinion that even his visual impairment that once earned him respect is being held against him. I have long believed the fight against drunk drivers is an oxymoron. Is it a fight or a revenue generating scam for communities and states. If they wanted to get drunk drivers off the road, they would impose far steeper penalties than the financial penalties which repurchase invoked licenses with thousands of dollars in legal fees. NEW YORK (Reuters) - An ethics panel is investigating allegations that New York Governor David Paterson got free tickets to the World Series in violation of state rules, the governor's press office said on Tuesday.
