Down On The farm Minor League Report 7/11/08 Pt 1
The Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees won easily over the Columbus Clippers by a score of 5-3. Starting for Scranton was Ross Ohlendorf and he gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits in 5 innings of work along with 7 strikeouts for the win. Replacing Ohlendorf to start the 6th inning was Steven Jackson and he gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit in 2 innings. Following Jackson to start the 8th inning was Heath Phillips and he pitched a scoreless inning giving up 1 hit. Scott Strickland pitched a scoreless 9th inning for the save. The hitting stars of the game for Scranton worth mentioning were short stop Roberto Gonzalez, third baseman Eric Duncan and right-fielder Ben Broussard. Gonzalez went 2 for 5 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with an as I sit in this smoky room, the night about to end I pass my time with strangers, but this bottle’s my only friend like a Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi type of home run. Duncan went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi along with a Somebody’s Baby by Jackson Browne type of home run. Broussard went 2 for 4 with 2 rbi’s.

Double A
The Trenton Thunder won a low scoring game over the Binghamton Mets by a score of 2-1. Starting for the Trenton Thunder was George Kontos and he gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits in 6.1 innings of work for the no decision. Replacing Kontos was Zachary Kroenke and he pitched to one batter and walked him and then was taken out of the game. Following Kroenke was Eric Wordekemper and he pitched 2.2 scoreless innings on record for the blown save and the win. He let Kontos’ run in, in the 7th inning. The hitting stars of the game for Trenton worth mentioning were DH Austin Jackson who went 3 for 3 with 1 rbi and a walk and catcher Joseph Muich who went 2 for 4 with 1 rbi.

The Tampa Yankees won easily over the Vero Beach Devil Rays by a score of 5-3. Starting for the Yankees was Zach McAllister and he gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 8 innings of work for the win. Replacing McAllister to finish the 9th inning was Jonathan Hovis and he pitched a scoreless inning giving up 2 hits for his 8th save and has an era of 1.33. The hitting stars of the game for Tampa worth mentioning were short stop Eduardo Nunez, left-fielder C.J. Henry and right-fielder Tim Battle. Nunez went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored with 2 rbi’s along with a holy cow, doing the chow chow, we’re no strangers to love, you know the rules and so do I like a Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley type of home, run, DROPPING BAAAAHMs baby! Henry went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with an official, laying the smack down on your candy shhhhh so sweet, you make my mouth water like an I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow type of homeroooster! Battle went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored.

Class A
The Charleston RiverDogs got destroyed by the West Virginia Power and lost by a score of 12-2. Starting for the RiverDogs was Jairo Heredia and boy did he stink giving up 7 earned runs on 7 hits in 4 innings of work for the loss. Replacing Heredia to start the 5th inning was Jesse Hoover and he gave up 2 earned runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Following Hoover to start the 7th inning was Gabe Medina and he gave up 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 3 innings. Just an all around bad pitching performance by the RiverDogs’ staff.
The hitting stars of the game for the RiverDogs worth mentioning were first baseman Brandon Laird who went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with a home run and shortstop Carmen Angelini who went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored.

Class A Short-Season
The Staten Island Yankees lost to the Oneonta Tigers by a score of 3-1. Starting for the Yankees was David Phelps and he gave up 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 5 innings of work for the loss. Replacing Phelps to start the 6th inning was Nick Asselin and he pitched 3 scoreless innings giving up 3 hits along with 4 strikeouts.
