Ever been a "beard" or a "Katie Holmes" as its called in the "Tru Loved" trailer? I'm referring to acting as the girlfriend of a secretly gay man who wants to appear straight. That's the relationship between teenagers, Tru (Najarra Townsend) and Lodell (Matthew Thompson). She's the new girl at school with two moms AND two dads and he's the star football player who isn't ready to admit to anyone he's gay, including himself. Tru's lesbian moms (Alexandra Paul and Cynda Williams) are happy she's acquired a new boyfriend. But when they meet Lodell for the first time, their "gay-dar" sounds a silent alarm. ... The fact that she's Nichelle Nichols, Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek is enough for me to post this piece. But I'm also a fan of Cenk Uygur and The Young Turks. Not to mention the fact that Nichols is in a film called The Torturer which may cast an unfriendly light on former President George W. Bush. So this hit the trifecta for me. Enjoy. http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url;=example.com&title;=TITLE&bodytext;=DESCRIPTION&topic;=TOPIC Read Full Story

When you find something, do you get this warm feeling? Like, “WOW, I can’t believe I found this is. It’s my precious- All Mine!” Well, I have to say I felt that way when I found this “gawd-awful”, profane, disgusting yet funny, classic gem of a clip of Nichelle Nichols playing a Madame Pimp in the 1974 blaxploitation film, Truck Turner. It’s very intersting to me because: I really love film. I really love film. I really love film. So, to come across something from Nichelle Nichols that I had never seen or heard of before is awesome. In the clip, Nichelle plays Dorinda, ... Read Full Story

Money can’t buy happiness, they say. But for Kesha Ni’cole Nichols, it may help soften the blow of being left at the altar by runaway groom Richard Jefferson. The former New Jersey Nets and current San Antonio Spurs player is giving a “six-figure” settlement to his jilted bride she can start a new life, sans him. Of the parting gift, Richard said, “I’m not trying to buy her off. She just has a lump sum to help her move on.” So basically, he is trying to buy her off. “I won’t say a negative word about Kesha. She is one of my best friends.” ... Read Full Story

Though Zoe Saldana made a gorgeous Uhura in the latest Star Trek retread, there's really no replacing the original. Not only is Nichelle Nichols stunning, but her role was a huge barrier-breaker for African-American actresses, and she totally hooked it up with Captain Kirk (under alien mind control, of course). Her look never ceases to be foxy, either, and it's as perfect for Fall 2009 as it was for 1967 - in fact, designers stole a lot of...
