Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats yesterday met with Guido Westerwelle, the leader of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) and German Foreign Minister. The meeting was their first since Guido Westerwelle became Foreign Minister after the German elections in October. Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable and Shadow Foreign Minister, Edward Davey also attended the meeting. The FDP are allied with the Liberal Democrats in Europe and internationally. Read Full Story

Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg today challenged Gordon Brown at Prime Minister’s Questions on planned cuts to Housing Benefit. Current Government plans are to scrap excess payments to local housing allowance claimants where their rent is lower than the rate of the allowance. This would see some of the poorest families in the country up to £780 a year worse off. Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg today challenged Gordon Brown to scrap planned reforms to local housing allowance, which he said would cost poorer people £15 a week. Mr Clegg said up to 300,000 would be hit by the change, adding: "It won't save the Treasury any money." But the Prime Minister said he did not believe the £15 figure was accurate and added that he was trying to reform housing benefit so that it helped those most in need...
