Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats yesterday met with Guido Westerwelle, the leader of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) and German Foreign Minister. The meeting was their first since Guido Westerwelle became Foreign Minister after the German elections in October. Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg today challenged Gordon Brown at Prime Minister’s Questions on planned cuts to Housing Benefit. Current Government plans are to scrap excess payments to local housing allowance claimants where their rent is lower than the rate of the allowance. This would see some of the poorest families in the country up to £780 a year worse off.
