SANTA ANA, Calif. - A Korea-born pastor who owns and operates a religious school in Fullerton, Calif., is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court Wednesday to answer to charges that he used the school as a front for an elaborate student visa fraud scheme, going so far as to hand out phony diplomas and stage graduation ceremonies.  

A West Chester couple and their office manager pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Philadelphia to fraudulently obtaining hundreds of temporary-worker visas for illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central and South America.  

Authorities say they have dismantled a U.S. visa scam in Brazil that raked in about $53 million from 4,500 victims since 2002. Eleven suspects were arrested in four Brazilian states.The U.S. Consulate in Sao Paulo says the suspects victimized Brazilians seeking temporary U.S. work visas, charging up to $15,000 each.A statement from the consulate says it was one of the large cases of U.S. visa fraud ever. Authorities arrested 11 people Monday in an alleged U.S. work-visa scam that raked in more than $50 million from thousands of Brazilians since 2002. Some of those scammed went to the U.S. and wound up as illegal aliens because promised jobs didn't exist.  

Dr. Hany M. Iskander, of Powell, Ohio, a medical doctor who is an Egyptian national in the U.S. on a work visa, was charged with executing a scheme to defraud Medicare, Medicaid, and other health care benefit programs out of several million dollars.
