Nissan Cube

Though the boxy Cube is roomy, its cubist styling has its practical drawbacks, says interior reviewer, Michael Clark. The Cube’s vertical side windows are hard to clear with the defogger vents and they reflect lights of passing cars.

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Nissan Motor Co. Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn, who turned the company into the most profitable of the world’s seven biggest automakers in 2005 and made Ghosn-san a Japanese household name, is placing the auto industry’s biggest bet yet on electric vehicles. While international diplomats are meeting in Copenhagen this week to hash out a new climate policy, the car company Nissan came to Seattle looking to inspire a few, well, guinea pigs in an experiment to see how its new all-electric car will fit the American lifestyle.  

Nissan this week is wrapping up the west coast tour of its electric vehicle with demonstrations in Las Vegas. The carmaker brought its Leaf all-electric prototypes from the Computer Electronics Show convention floor to the parking lot of NV Energy's office on Sahara Avenue, where utility employees, media and the general public were invited to test drive a vehicle equipped with the battery-powered motor that will be used in the final product.

The Cube “looks like a rolling tribute to Pikachu and his animated Pokemon buddies,” says Contributing Editor, Chris Chase. It’s certainly roomy and practical, but there’s a downside to its upright stature, he says.

It may be a little funny-looking, in a kind of cute way, but Nissan's new cube "van-like object" is a pretty nifty vehicle overall. And while it does tend to perform somewhat like the brick on wheels that it resembles, it actually acquitted itself ...  

2010 Kia Soul ! A/TIt's quite a testament to the maturity of this Korean automaker.I'll admit this Kia has grown on me. When it first debuted I dismissed it as a generic version of Japanese box cars, namely the Nissan Cube. That's still true -- the Soul won't turn heads or make the statement that Nissan's rolling washing machine does - but it also happens to be a better car. This holds particularly true inside.
