Noah Herron Must Protect This House

under-armour

The lack of luster that came along with the recent signing of running back Noah Herron is somewhat understandable.  After all, the guy has been a career back-up running back, and will be just that with the Browns.

Regardless of role, any guy that has not had a season worth writing home about in over three years is not about to turn the heads of fans.  But perhaps as story from last summer will.

While nursing a knee injury in his suburban Green Bay, Wisconsin home, Herron was the victim of an attempted robbery.  While an unknown number of people attempted to break in, two of the would-be thieves did not exit the way he had likely originally planned.

Chief Deputy John Gossage said Herron called police at 11:19 p.m. Friday after he heard glass breaking in the lower level of his suburban Green Bay home. He said an unknown number of people had entered the house.

One of the intruders entered Herron’s bedroom, and Herron hit the person with a post he had unscrewed from his bed, Gossage said. Herron was not injured.

The injured burglar was taken to a hospital, and a second suspect was arrested outside the home.

So, to recap: While facing the threat of multiple, likely-armed men that were breaking into his home, Herron took matters into his own hands by beating them into a state of hospitalization with his own - affixed at the time of entry - bedpost.

Awesome.

The Sheriff of Brown County stood by Herron’s side, claiming that the running back used “necessary, reasonable, and justifiable force” to protect his home.

In a world where athletes find themselves targeted by those that do not abide by the law (see Taylor, Sean), one can imagine that Herron was acting instinctively.  This situation could have wound pretty up unfavorable for the running back, well beyond the items that were taken from his vehicle.

But also in a world where Browns fans are searching for something to get excited about during this relatively painful off-season, we will grasp at anything we can.  Even if it does involve bludgeoning burglars with furniture while with a prior team.  A glimpse of hope, wrapped with a bow in the form of vandal assault?  Where do I sign?
