Hoover Institution economist Thomas J. Sargent , a leader in the field of macroeconomics and the rational expectations revolution, was named a recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Sargent shared the prize, including the 10 million kronor ($1.5 million) cash award, with American Christopher A. Sims, of Princeton University, "for their empirical research on cause and effect in the macroeconomy."
