An Iraqi immigrant accused of killing his daughter because she had become too Westernized has pleaded not guilty in a Phoenix court. Faleh Hassan Almaleki pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of aggravated assault. Prosecutors are expected to issue harsher charges now that his daughter has died. Peoria police say Almaleki ran down his daughter and her boyfriend's mother on Oct. 20 with his Jeep. Noor Faleh Almaleki died about two weeks later. The other woman survived. A woman who US police say was run over by her Iraqi immigrant father because he thought she had become "too westernized" has died from her injuries, local media reported. Noor Almaleki of Surprise, Arizona, died Monday from injuries sustained after her father hit her and her boyfriend's mother in a parking lot on October 20, Mike Tellef of the Peoria Police Department told KPHO television. A court hearing in Phoenix for an Iraqi immigrant accused of killing his daughter because she had become too Westernized has been delayed because he is on a suicide watch. Court officials say the Maricopa County sheriff's office didn't take Faleh Hassan Almaleki to his arraignment Thursday because of his status. Almaleki was charged with two counts of aggravated assault after police in the Phoenix suburb of Peoria say he ran down his daughter and her boyfriend's mother with his Jeep Oct. 20. Authorities say a 20-year-old woman from Iraq whose father allegedly hit her with his car in a Phoenix suburb has died from her injuries. Noor Faleh Almaleki had been in a local hospital since Oct. 20. Peoria police spokesman Mike Tellef says she died Monday. Family members say Faleh Hassan Almaleki believed his daughter had become too Westernized and was not living according to his traditional Iraqi values.
