North Caicos is the third-largest island in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Also called the 'Garden Island', it's probably the lushest island in the archipelago. To the west, the Caicos Cays (the closest is Parrot Cay) link to Providenciales. To the east, it is separated from Middle Caicos by Juniper Hole, a narrow passage that can accommodate only small boats.

Image via Wikipedia The biggest news over the past months in Turks and Caicos has been the British Government's investigation into government corruption in this territory. While we have a British Governor, this territory has up until now been governed independently by the Turks Islanders with an independent constitution. I have been following the Turks and Caicos inquiry with great interest, as has everyone I know who lives and works here. It is a fascinating time in this country's history. Today the Commissioner's interim report was publicly released. To start, the commission indeed found evidence of corruption along with amorality, immaturity, and incompetence, leading ... Former Premier Michael Misick (who according to the NY Times is still running things behind the scenes) is still attempting to block UK takeover of this government, and several big real estate developers who were named in the inquiry are trying to keep their names out of the report. Image via Wikipedia With all the development going on in the Turks and Caicos Islands you would think this country would be flowing with cash, especially the government which takes in taxes on the real estate transfers, planning fees, work permits, custom duties, and all the other bits and pieces that go along with a booming tourist market. However, there is some trouble in our beautiful adopted paradise. In a stunning move the TCI government started 2009 with a bang by not paying government workers in January because there wasn't enough money. "The monthly payroll, which includes everyone with permanent government positions, including all ... Read Full Story
