Two days ago I wrote about and showed pictures from our touring of the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Yesterday, Harvey and I spent the day away from the Notre Dame campus to tour other attractions in South Bend . Wednesday was a very eclectic day. We started by going back to the University for a few specific items. First I wanted to go back to the Grotto to light a candle and say a personal prayer. It agree with those who say that visiting the Grotto is a unique experience that is very hard to put into words. Here is a ... Read Full Story

Well we have just finished our road trip to our hotel in Mishawaka, Indiana. It took just under 8 hours but with the catching up that Harvey and I did the drive did not seem to take that long at all. Here is a slide show with selected pictures of our travel. We went from Toronto to Sarnia and then across through Michigan, down to Indiana and then across to Mishawaka. Once we checked in around 5 pm or so, we headed to the University of Notre Dame campus for a very, very quick walkabout and a few picture taking opportunities in the fading ... Read Full Story

If you have ever seen the film Rudy, then you know that it’s about a kid who wills his way onto the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team against incredible odds. Rudy is a 1993 film directed by David Anspaugh. It is an account of the life of Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger who harbored dreams of playing football at the University of Notre Dame despite significant obstacles. It was the first movie the Notre Dame administration allowed to be shot on campus since Knute Rockne, All American in 1940. In 2005 Rudy was named one of the best 25 sports movies of the previous 25 ... Read Full Story

On October 18, 1924, two games and two nicknames were brought to the forefront of college football. It was on this day that the grand opening game of the new Memorial Stadium at Illinois University had taken place between the Fighting Illini and Michigan Wolverines. Also, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Army Black Knights clashed in New York at the Polo Grounds, too. Michigan(2-0) @ Illinois(2-0) This was thought at the time to be a mismatch because Michigan had dominated opponents for the last two years at that point. But the Fighting Illini had a star that could combat the strong defense of ... Read Full Story

After a nearly two-decade break, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said the Fighting Irish is ”very interested” in playing Miami again in football, and the interest is mutual. UM’s Kirby Hocutt initiated talks with Swarbrick, who became Notre Dame’s athletic director in July. No dates are set, but talks will resume in April, Swarbrick said by phone Monday. NBC’s Notre Dame contract includes seven Irish home games and one prime-time neutral site game annually through 2015. ”You could do that,” Swarbrick said of the neutral site game, “plus do one home and home.” UM and Notre Dame played annually (1971-1985 and 1987-1990) before ... Charlie Weis has long held admiration and respect for the U.S. Naval Academy and its Midshepmen football team. Unfortunately, he forgot to pass that respect on to his team. At Notre Dame Stadium Saturday, Navy executed a perfect attack and Notre Dame repeatedly shot itself in the foot allowing the Middies to a second straight win at the House that Rockne Built and Lou Holtz Expanded. The loss dealt a serious blow to the Fighting Irish...

Aren't bonus caps awesome? Here's how the story goes: You check the website sometime earlier, come back to get the hat you saw this morning, and guess what?! It's gone. We sold out. Bummer for you. That really bites. Too bad, stop crying you baby because things are going to get better. That's right, hataday is throwing in a twist. If we run out of the hat of the day, we'll replace it with a bonus cap. Now, say for instance that bonus cap...

Just a couple of days ago, Irish fans were excited for the stretch run of the 2009 season. With four games left bowl eligibility was already wrapped up and Notre Dame was in place to make it's move up the BCS rankings. A return to the BCS was a very realistic possibility. Even though it was only two days ago, doesn't it seem like so long ago? I take nothing away from Navy. They game in South Bend and played a great game. They were hungry and...
