SOUTH BEND -- Numerous times on Tuesday during his weekly press conference, Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis was asked about his future, which has come into question after last week's loss to Navy.  

In today's The Wall Street Journal on the the sports page, writer Jason Gay tries to make a funny in an article about Charlie Weis and the Fighting Irish football program: Irish Eyes on Weis   "We think Charlie Weis should be made to coach every game of his 10-year contract, which expires in 2015. Why not? You think someone is going to show up in South Bend-Knute Rockne's ghost, perhaps?-and transform the Fighting Irish into a perennial top...  

SOUTH BEND -- It was beyond schematic deficiencies. It was beyond two uncharacteristic and costly fumbles. It was beyond a pass that bounced off the back of a star receiver and into the hands of a defender. It was beyond two missed field goals. It was a dreadful lack of passion.

SOUTH BEND -The Notre Dame head football coach watched standout tight end Kyle Rudolph get taken off the field and to the Irish locker room after suffering an injury to his left shoulder during the third quarter Saturday of 19th-ranked Notre Dame's 23-21 loss to Navy.  

University of Notre Dame junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen and junior wide receiver Golden Tate were both selected as semifinalists for the 2009 Maxwell Award, presented annually to college football's Player of the Year, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday.  

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. This article has nothing to do with who will or won't have the better NFL career. This is purely about what both Brady Quinn and Jimmy Clausen have done at Notre Dame. For any other quarterback mentioned, I am also looking at only what he did in South Bend. At this point, every single Notre Dame fan has contemplated the football program's future and who should replace Coach Weis. I suspect there are even a few graves still spinning over the recent loss to Navy. No Irish coach since the Kuharich experiment has lost to Navy. Not once. That makes twice for Weis. Let us say for all intensive purposes that Weis is released at the end of the season. I'd support shipping him up Lake Michigan right now...
