A community portal about Nuclear power with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Nuclear power is the controlled use of nuclear reactions to release energy for work including propulsion, heat, and the generation of electricity. Human use of nuclear power to do significant useful work is currently limited to nuclear fission and radioactive decay. Nuclear energy is produced when a fissile material, such as uranium -235, is concentrated such that nuclear fission takes place in a controlled chain reaction and creates heat — which is used to boil water, produce steam, and drive a steam turbine. The turbine can be used for mechanical work and also to generate electricity. Nuclear power is used to power most military submarines and aircraft carriers and provides 7% of the world's energy and 15.7% of the world's electricity. Nuclear energy policy differs between countries.

Green Peace Green Lights Nukes: Well Sort Of

When one considers that Green Peace was originally created to oppose underground nuclear testing, it actually comes as a shock that the founder is now supporting Nuclear Power. Believe it or not, the founder of Green Peace Dr. Patrick Moore, spoke in Boise, Idaho recently. What he had to say was this....

"..there is no proof that humans are causing global warming," and he wisely advocated "a dramatic shift toward reliance upon nuclear power." A-freaking-mazing. It's good to see that actual factual data is beginning to make headway against failed computer models, inaccurately generated statistics and celebrity science.

The Clean Air and Safe Energy Coalition which Dr. Moore now represents, believes that nuclear power will be the predominant energy source to wean America off of fossil fuels and foreign dependence. Other alternative energies can serve some intermediate energy functions, but cannot in any way cover the scope that nuclear can.

Radical environmentalists accuse Dr. Moore of being a sell-out. That being the only argument they have left, since every other bit of opposition they've had has disintegrated like a dirt clod in a bucket of water. Mostly because Dr. Moore is an actual scientist, whilst the remnant of GreenPeace these days are political agendists.

Groups such as Nukefree, held up by music celebrities like Nash, Raitt, Harper and Browne dive into the mix often, waxing nostalgic with incorrect info. I found an interesting video on YouTube on this topic by user kuronekoyama. It's about two years old, but the info in it stands solid. HERE is the video. There are also two more follow up videos on this topic found in order HERE and HERE. They provide some interesting insight on the nuclear energy topic.

France generates over 75% of it's nations energy via Nuclear power. Imagine the reduced cost of energy here in America should we move to even 40%-50% of our energy via Nuclear versus the under 30% we have now.

There's more on this topic to be found HERE.
